CSE 370 Board
Spring quarter’s off to a start. My classes look good so far. Digital Design looks to be the most interesting for me. We went over some basic logic circuits yesterday and got our lab kits today (pictured at right.) The kit is pretty cool. It contains a bunch of
TTL chips, and the protoboard has a bunch of switches, LEDs, and a programmable chip. It’s going to be neat to start really working with hardware and learning how some of this stuff works. To check out our lab kits, we swiped our ID cards through a reader (not too unusual – at this university, the cards are used for everything.) What was neat about the reader was that it was assembled from one of the lab kits. I’m looking forward to being able to throw a circuit like that together.
Software Development Tools looks like it’s going to cover a lot of stuff I already know to some extent, but it’s going to be nice to get a formal introduction to all of it and hopefully improve my confidence with some of the more complex UNIX tools (sed and awk come to mind) and C and C++. I wouldn’t mind a 4.0, either…
Probability & Statistics is pretty different from the other math classes I’ve taken. For one, we write code for the homeworks. Since it’s specifically for CSE majors, there should be some interesting applications. The two-hour-block format of the class feels like it could get a little long at times (especially on my solid Tuesdays) but it will be nice having the extra time for a little more depth.
The Music class today was short, just going over the syllabus. The class looks like it should be interesting, but I’ll have a better idea of that once we actually get into some stuff.
I have a bunch of photos of the cherry blossoms on the Quad that I’m still sorting through. I took a bunch on Sunday, and then went out with Brad for a walk yesterday and filled up a 512MiB card. Once I get everything sorted out, named, and uploaded, I’ll post some of them (something to look forward to.)
Also, my spring 2006 schedule is now online.
